What to Wear to a Spring/Summer Wedding: A Personal Fashion Stylist's Guide

The wedding season arrives in Melbourne in Spring when temperatures are hopefully hovering in the pleasant 20s. If you've received an invitation for a cocktail wedding, you might be wondering what to wear. As your personal fashion stylist, I'm here to guide you through the process.

A cocktail dress code is easier to dress for than a formal dress code and you can let your personality shine First, let's set the mood for your outfit. Are you aiming for a floaty and feminine look or a strong and structured one? Let's explore the options.

For floaty and feminine style, consider a floral midi dress. It's one of my personal favourites, offering a perfect blend of femininity and fun. Dressing up in a bright colour makes you feel elegant, and the best part is that you can wear it again for other occasions. If the colour scheme of your dress is bright, opt for nude shoes and a bag to elegantly complement the dress.

On the other hand, if you're going for a more moody and dramatic look, black is a classic choice. Pair it with sequin heels and a sequin pink bag to add a pop of brightness to your outfit. This look exudes sophistication and power and is so chic you’ll get many compliments

Keep in mind that for a wedding, it's wise to avoid very low necklines, as you want to feel comfortable while enjoying your meal and dancing the night away. If the wedding is held outdoors, opt for a block heel rather than a thin one to prevent sinking into the grass and ensure stability while walking on uneven surfaces.

I also recommend bringing a small blazer jacket with you, regardless of the weather forecast. Wedding venues often have great air conditioning, and there's nothing worse than feeling cold when you're trying to have fun.

Remember, your outfit is an extension of your unique personality, so have fun with it. Let your confidence shine through and enjoy celebrating the special day.
